Monday's close delivered the confirmation this publication had been waiting on. Brent's front month settled below the downside line we registered in advance, sealing at the settlement what the morning's slide could only suggest. US stocks closed sharply higher the same day, and the rally rode the same story that pushed oil down: word that Washington and Tehran were headed back to the table.
Within hours that story lost one of its two authors. Iran's foreign ministry says it is holding no negotiations with the United States, and that its only live talks are with Oman, over safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump disputes the denial outright, calls Iran's leadership duplicitous, and frames the talks he says exist as a last chance. The two governments are in direct factual contradiction about whether a US-Iran process is under way at all; the Oman channel is the one piece both sides acknowledge. Crude, far from clawing back the loss, extended it this morning.
A second thread runs through the morning: silver jumped again on a session the dollar also firmed, the clearest shape yet against a purely mechanical currency account of this year's metals strength, and one of our standing pre-registered questions got its best look so far. One honest caveat up front: we do not claim to know which of the live explanations owns this price action. The paid section lays them out, and what would separate them, rather than picking a favorite.
For paying subscribers below: the full regime dashboard, data, and mapped sources. The exact settlement that confirmed the break and the four live readings of a price that has not gone back; the updated China import estimate that landed just under our confirmer line, one day before the official print; the silver session and the test it feeds this week; Japan deteriorating on both legs, with the distance to our stress line at a run-history low; and the Fed read that firmed against the tape.
