Tankers were reported attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on two days running. On Thursday, a tanker was hit by explosives fixed to its hull from a small boat, Reuters reports, citing the UK's maritime security service, UKMTO.

US growth ran at 3.4 percent. The Bank of Japan held.

The US economy grew at a 3.4 percent annual rate in the third quarter, the Bureau of Economic Analysis's advance estimate shows. Consumer prices on the bureau's PCE measure rose 3.6 percent in the year to September, and 3.1 percent without food and energy.

The Fed held, and two officials wanted a hike. Japan decides next.

Russia and Ukraine said on Friday they had agreed a ceasefire around occupied Oleshky, and Zelensky said talks with Russia and the US were set for the first half of November, by The Moscow Times, drawing on Reuters. Both militaries gave October 27 as the start; the White House's own statement gives October 29.

Brent's front month rose about 6 percent to $116.72. Oil for late 2027 barely moved.
