Daily Take

Brent's front month settled Wednesday at 108.82 on ICE, up 3 cents. Its December 2027 contract settled at 86.77, a little higher. The same day the US Treasury added nine vessels and four companies tied to Iran's shadow-fleet networks to its sanctions list.

That is more pressure on Iran's trade, and the front month barely moved. Our reading is that a price near 109 already carries a disrupted Strait of Hormuz, so one more sanctions round on cargo, bulk and crew boats has little to add. One flat day cannot prove that. Across Tuesday and Wednesday, gCaptain, citing UK Maritime Trade Operations, reported two more tankers struck by projectiles in the Gulf, off Iraq and Oman; we could not check UKMTO's own notices at source.

The bigger question sits further out. Oil for delivery in late 2027 has stayed expensive on quiet days, which this week put our demand-slump thesis under review. Wednesday was one more such day. It shows the far end holding. It does not show what holds it there, and that is still the open question.

The scoreboard

How to read this: each lane is a standing idea about where capital is going. Rule is the condition we set in advance and whether it has been met; Thesis is where the idea stands today. Each lane ends with the next event that tests it. A lane with no new evidence keeps its last thesis state, and the card dates when that state was last assessed; lanes listed as carried forward keep their last stated reading and state. Each lane's end line, and its history, is public at theregimemap.com/lanes. Definitions: Glossary

Global demand / the back of the curve

Next test: · the first scored round of the monthly demand forecasts

Why

Brent's December 2027 contract settled Wednesday at 86.77 on ICE, up from 86.58, on a day the front month barely moved.

Crude / the front of the curve

Next test: · the Petroline pipeline's restart re-check

Why

Brent's front month settled Wednesday at 108.82 on ICE, up 3 cents.

Iran / Hormuz

Next test: · the re-check of the mid-October tanker attack reports

Why

gCaptain, citing UK Maritime Trade Operations, reports two more tankers struck by projectiles on October 20 and 21, off Iraq and Oman; we could not check UKMTO's own notices at source. The reported attacks point to continued disruption, but they do not show whether passage through the strait has changed, so we close our incident and passage check without a verdict.

Gold / miners

Next test: · the Fed's decision

Why

Gold's December contract last settled at 4,142.60 on the exchange's licensed feed, on October 20.

Thesis stateUNDER REVIEW

Has enough evidence built up against the thesis that the thesis itself is in question, not just today’s move?

Full entry in the glossary

Rule stateFIRED

The test’s condition was met on the close it is judged on, and the card gives the date. A fired rule stays fired. If the price later moves back through the level, the rule is still fired. Only an invalidation can change it.

Full entry in the glossary

Rule stateNOT FIRED

The condition has not been met. This label also covers a test whose required conditions were never present, and the card says which case applies. A test that needs a level to hold for two sessions stays NOT FIRED until the second session closes.

Rule stateRETIRED UNRESOLVED

A test withdrawn without a resolved outcome. Its history records why it was retired and whether it was replaced.

Thesis stateUNCONFIRMED

Does the evidence fit the thesis while another explanation for the same evidence remains open? The card names that explanation.

Rule stateINVALIDATED

The test can no longer be judged as written. Either its instrument, level or basis has been overtaken, or the invalidating event we named in advance has happened. We replace or retire an invalidated test openly, and we never change it quietly.
