Daily Take

Russia and Ukraine said on Friday they had agreed a ceasefire around occupied Oleshky, and Zelensky said talks with Russia and the US were set for the first half of November, by The Moscow Times, drawing on Reuters. Both militaries gave October 27 as the start; the White House's own statement gives October 29.

The same day, a drone sank the tanker Khoryv off Constanta, and Romania's president blamed Russia, by Reuters, as carried by gCaptain. Early reports said at least one sailor was killed, with three still missing.

A ceasefire for one town is not a truce, and Zelensky noted that a similar meeting this month fell through. Only a US act on the waiver of the Russia duty can move the sanctions question, and our next check of it is October 26.

No market has traded since Friday's close. This week the Fed decides on October 28, the Bank of Japan meets on October 29 and 30, and December Brent stops trading on October 30. Neither Friday event changes the map: the Russia lane stays under review, and the standing regime waits on the Bank of Japan.

Weekend edition: every market level below is a Friday, October 23 close or settlement unless otherwise noted.

The scoreboard

How to read this: each lane is a standing idea about where capital is going. Rule is the condition we set in advance and whether it has been met; Thesis is where the idea stands today. Each lane ends with the next event that tests it. A lane with no new evidence keeps its last thesis state, and the card dates when that state was last assessed; lanes listed as carried forward keep their last stated reading and state. Each lane's history, and any end line we have registered, is public at theregimemap.com/lanes. Definitions: Glossary

Rule stateNOT FIRED

The condition has not been met. This label also covers a test whose required conditions were never present, and the card says which case applies. A test that needs a level to hold for two sessions stays NOT FIRED until the second session closes.

Rule stateINVALIDATED

The test can no longer be judged as written. Either its instrument, level or basis has been overtaken, or the invalidating event we named in advance has happened. We replace or retire an invalidated test openly, and we never change it quietly.
