Daily Take

Strikes were reported again in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. A container ship and a tanker were each struck by an unknown projectile in two separate incidents, Anadolu reported, citing warnings from the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency. The warnings named no vessels, gave no incident times and gave no details of damage or casualties, and no attacker has been named. Brent's front-month contract settled at 105.69 on ICE, down 0.96.

The far end of the curve went the other way. Brent for December 2027 rose 0.98 to 86.25. With the incident times unconfirmed, Tuesday's settlements cannot be read as the market's answer to the strikes.

The supply-shock interpretation remains in place, but Tuesday's session does not isolate its contribution to price. One session is not enough to establish improving demand. Gold fell 13.30 on a day the dollar weakened; a stronger dollar does not fit that move, and the session does not settle what does.

One change to the scoreboard: we replaced the demand-forecast test today, because the old wording never said which year, which measure or which forecasters counted.

The scoreboard

How to read this: each lane is a standing idea about where capital is going. Rule is the condition we set in advance and whether it has been met; Thesis is where the idea stands today. Each lane ends with the next event that tests it. A lane with no new evidence keeps its last thesis state; lanes listed as carried forward keep their last stated reading and state. Thesis stateUNCONFIRMED

Does the evidence fit the thesis while another explanation for the same evidence remains open? The card names that explanation.

Rule stateNOT FIRED

The condition has not been met. This label also covers a test whose required conditions were never present, and the card says which case applies. A test that needs a level to hold for two sessions stays NOT FIRED until the second session closes.

Rule stateINVALIDATED

The test can no longer be judged as written. Either its instrument, level or basis has been overtaken, or the invalidating event we named in advance has happened. We replace or retire an invalidated test openly, and we never change it quietly.

Rule stateUNRESOLVED

The registered end condition remains unscored. This does not mean the confirming rule fired or the thesis was invalidated.

Rule stateFIRED

The test’s condition was met on the close it is judged on, and the card gives the date. A fired rule stays fired. If the price later moves back through the level, the rule is still fired. Only an invalidation can change it.
