Daily Take

USD/JPY closed Tuesday at 157.37, a third straight session weaker, into Thursday, when Tokyo reopens and the Bank of Japan's 1.25 percent rate takes effect. Monday's move was yen-specific, set against a dollar index that moved a quarter as far; Tuesday's is unattributed, and was made with Tokyo shut. Thursday is the first session that can separate a yen weakening through the compression, which is what the idea predicts, from a yen strengthening on it, which is the ordinary outcome.

Gold's count against our 4,400 line stands at zero, where Monday's settlement left it. The back of the Brent curve, the test that separates a demand story from a war-premium story, also stands where Monday's settlements left it, above the line that would retire the slow-demand idea. Chips rose a third day, about 2 percent, with no cause we can confirm.

No standing signal changed today. Thursday brings the next material tests: Tokyo's first session under the new rate, the Saudi pipeline check and the Trump-Xi meeting in Washington.

The scoreboard

How to read this: each lane is a standing idea about where capital is going. Rule is the level or condition we wrote down in advance, and whether it has been met. Thesis is what the evidence now says about the idea itself. Definitions: Glossary

Lane Rule Rule state Thesis state What changed Next test
Gold / miners Two consecutive front-month COMEX settlements above $4,400 , count at zero Monday's 4,383.90 settlement, 16.10 under the line, is the last scored. A first settlement above 4,400 restarts the count; a settlement below 4,300 opens a review of the idea.
Crude / the pipeline A Brent front-month settlement below our $92 line Monday's 100.34 front settlement is the last scored, and Petroline has no confirmed restart. A settlement below 92, or Thursday's Petroline check.
Global demand / the curve A December 2027 Brent settlement holding above our $75 line through a session where the front is calm retires the idea; a settlement below $75 confirms it Monday's 79.39 December 2027 settlement, 4.39 above the line with the front anything but calm, is the last scored; the alert on this line fired Tuesday on an intraday print, details below the wall. The condition has not been met. This label also covers a test whose required conditions were never present, and the card says which case applies. A test that needs a level to hold for two sessions stays NOT FIRED until the second session closes.

Rule stateFIRED

The test’s condition was met on the close it is judged on, and the card gives the date. A fired rule stays fired. If the price later moves back through the level, the rule is still fired. Only an invalidation can change it.
