Daily Take
No market has traded since Friday's close, so every level in this issue is Friday's and nothing on the map moved over the weekend. Gold closed at 4,321.20, up 23.20, between our 4,300 and 4,400 lines. WTI closed at 92.41, down 2.20. The S&P 500 closed at 7,743.41, under its August record. Only a settlement can score those lines, and Monday brings the next one.
One thing did change. Saturday's issue quoted a Brent close of 104.32 for Friday. Published closes for that session disagree by several dollars, and no exchange settlement record confirms any of them, so we withdraw that figure and retract the claim that the two crude benchmarks fell together. There is no replacement number. Until an exchange record lands, our 92 line on Brent cannot be scored for Friday and is held, unscored. WTI's undisputed close is evidence on the crude complex; it does not replace the ruler.
Read together, the weekend changed nothing on the map and removed one leg from under Friday's crude read. The give-back in crude stands, on one benchmark, with its cause unassigned. Monday's settlements score gold against 4,300 and 4,400 and Brent against 92, resuming the held rule.
Weekend edition: every market level below is a Friday, September 25 close unless otherwise noted.
The scoreboard
How to read this: each lane is a standing idea about where capital is going. Rule is the level or condition we wrote down in advance, and whether it has been met. Thesis is what the evidence now says about the idea itself. Definitions: Glossary
| Lane | Rule | Rule state | Thesis state | What changed | Next test |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold / miners | Two consecutive front-month COMEX settlements above $4,400 | , count at zero | Friday's 4,321.20 close, up 23.20 from Thursday's 4,298.00, sits between the 4,300 and 4,400 lines; the dollar index closed down 0.32 at 100.97. | Monday's settlements against 4,300 and 4,400. | |
| Crude / the front of the curve | A Brent front-month settlement below our $92 line | UNSCORABLE, HELD: Friday's Brent settlement not established | Brent's last confirmed close is Thursday's 106.60; the Friday figure quoted on Saturday is withdrawn. WTI, evidence on the crude complex and never the scoring instrument, closed Friday at 92.41, down 2.20 from Thursday's 94.61. | Monday's Brent settlement against 92, which resumes the rule. | |
| Global demand / the back of the curve | A December 2027 Brent settlement holding above our $75 line through a session where the front is calm retires the idea; a settlement below $75 confirms it | , the calm-front condition absent | December 2027 last read 79.83 on Thursday morning, September 24; Friday's front moved more than two dollars, so the session does not count. No new China figure this weekend. | A December 2027 settlement above 75 through a calm front; China's completed September import figure. | |
| Japan / the yen | USD/JPY at 165, or the ten-year JGB above 3.00 percent | JGB LEG , scored September 16; YEN LEG | USD/JPY's latest quote sits near 157, stronger for the yen than the close carried on Saturday and well under 165; no session move is stated. The Bank of Japan's 1.25 percent against a Fed midpoint of 3.875 leaves a gap of 2.625 points, unchanged. | A published ten-year row above 3.00; a close at 165; the finance ministry stepping in. | |
| Rates / the Fed | The October path holding above one step on the settlement | , scored on the September 21 settlement | Our settlement-based estimate of an October 28 increase last scored at about 60 percent on the September 21 fed funds futures settlement; no session has traded since Friday. | The next scored settlement, and whether October still sits above half on it. | |
| US equities and semiconductors | The August 13 record close retaken | S&P 500 7,743.41 on Friday's close, up 39.28 and under the record; the semiconductor index 12,668.93, up 176.39. | Micron's results September 30; TSMC's September sales around October 10. |
Markets and economy, thesis states unchanged: silver (our 70 line unmet) · uranium (our 80 line unmet) · quantum · AI infrastructure (held to October 23) · European defense · the defense primes (the fiscal-year deadline falls Wednesday) · drones · critical minerals · US consumer · cybersecurity · renewables
Geopolitics, thesis states unchanged: Russia-Ukraine (a drone attack across Ukraine overnight into Saturday, September 26. Early reports put the toll at least six dead and dozens injured, with counts still climbing. A proposed three-way venue with no agreed date is no ceasefire.) · NATO borders · trade (the truce's expiry date is in question, covered below) · Red Sea · Taiwan · Iran and Hormuz
Carried lanes, the detail: silver (the idea needs a clean official settlement above 70, and no reading this week gives one) · uranium (Cameco's published table still shows the August pair, 89.68 spot and 96.50 long-term, a gap of 6.82, with no September row yet; long-term above spot is ordinary contracting structure, and an industry-average indicator is no floor) · AI infrastructure (no dated sovereign-AI or chip-export development this weekend; nothing on Ohio is asserted; re-check October 23) · European defense (a proposed three-way venue with no agreed date leaves our ceasefire condition untouched, and strikes continued overnight; no new order) · the defense primes (the stopgap has to pass the Senate and be signed by Wednesday, September 30) · critical minerals (the rare-earth suspension's date rides on the same disputed truce date; the mechanism stands and the date is dropped until a Chinese ministry notice settles it) · US consumer (no print this weekend; payrolls October 2, CPI October 14) · Russia-Ukraine (the attack into Saturday used 173 drones, 50 of them jet-powered, per Ukraine's air force as relayed by one outlet; campaign evidence, and neither a sanctions action nor a procurement print) · NATO borders (no fresh incursion since the Polish airspace incident on September 23) · trade (September 24 reports of a two-month extension put the truce's expiry at January 10; the November 2025 fact sheet still on the government site says November 10; neither date is asserted until an official notice resolves it) · Red Sea (no fresh dated incident confirmed) · Taiwan (no new sortie count; the last one is not trended) · Iran and Hormuz (month five of the war; no fresh incident in the strait confirmed)
Rule stateNOT FIRED
The condition has not been met. This label also covers a test whose required conditions were never present, and the card says which case applies. A test that needs a level to hold for two sessions stays NOT FIRED until the second session closes.

Does the evidence fit the thesis while another explanation for the same evidence remains open? The card names that explanation.

Is there nothing new on this lane today? If so, the card keeps its last reading and that reading’s date.

The test’s condition was met on the close it is judged on, and the card gives the date. A fired rule stays fired. If the price later moves back through the level, the rule is still fired. Only an invalidation can change it.
